Yes, the number of limited edition Off-Shore models is almost as pathetic – perhaps even worse – as the number of Omega Speedmaster Professional variations, but it seems that brands still feel that there is a market for them. However, there is this specific limited edition Royal Oak Off-Shore – of 300 pieces – that catched my interest last year already (read about it here), the Montauk Highway watch.

During my visit to New York last May, I paid the Audemars Piguet boutique on East 57th street a visit and they happened to have one on display. I could finally see it in the flesh, as Audemars Piguet dealers are very rare here in The Netherlands. The nice sales manager let me fiddle around with it a bit and realized very quickly that I wasn’t a potential buyer,buy rolex replica watch, but merely an AP-adept. Which was OK for her as well. Sadly, most of the time when you are not buying they lose interest very quickly and can become rude. At least in this boutique they understand that I might be coming back when I hit jack pot.

Anyway – I am fully aware that I am drifting away from the Montauk Highway watch -, this watch made a huge impression on me, although the dial colors could be considered a bit too playful to keep interest in this watch. Due to the fact that there were only 300 available of these watches, and only for the official Audemars Piguet boutiques in the United States (Florida and NY), I didn’t expect them to pop up here at a watch dealer in The Netherlands. Interwatches has a NIB (New In Box) Montauk Highway up for sale, with a price tag of 16.950 euro. That’s approximately as much as the three others I see for sale via Chrono24. However, Europeans who want to have a Montauk Highway special should not forget about taxes, customs and so on when they buying a watch from overseas.

watch makes as much sense as a vibrating ringer on a mobile phone.
Unfortunately, if you want a silent watch, you don't

G-Shock collection goes,replica watches, I usually don't bother with anything that
isn't atomic and solar anymore simply because I think those are two
very useful features that Casio has really implemented well (see the Casio
G-Shock GW-400J). But if your criteria is less stringent, and
your priorities are a tough, inexpensive watch with a vibrating alarm,
The Casio G-Shock GL-7500HD looks like a very good fit. And it is
readily available in the US for only around $80.

For 2011 Rolex offers a new Explorer 2 to follow up last year's new Explorer. While the Explorer was bumped up to 39mm last year, the Explorer 2 is the Rolex sport watch with a modern size of 42mm in width. That is 2mm larger than the Submariner, and it likely wears better than the 43mm wide Submariner Deep Sea. Also new is the return of the orange GMT hand in addition to the Maxi-dial like size of the hands and hour indicators.

In a 42mm wide case, the Explorer 2 is in 904L steel with a mix of polished and brushed surfaces. While known for its white dial, the Explorer 2 now comes with a black dialed version as is traditional for the line - both in lacquer. Contrast on the dial on both models remains excellent, with the signature large orange GMT hand remaining on the dial. Both dials feature "Chromalight" luminant. The hands are all in white gold. I have had arguments with people about Rolex hands being in white gold. While not all of them are, many of the newer Rolex models have white gold hands. Says it right here in the Rolex material!

The case looks great with its steel on steel fixed 24 hour bezel. It is water resistant to 100 meters. Sapphire crystal is double AR coated and has a date magnifier lens. Inside the watch is an in-house made Rolex caliber 3187 COSC Chronometer certified automatic. It has the time, date,rolex explorer II replica, and GMT hand - and a 48 hour power reserve. Would have been great to see the watch have the glide-lock clasp of the Submariner, but then the Explorer would encorach on its territory.

It has a steel bracelet with an Oysterlock clasp and Easylink 5mm comfort extension link. Not sure exactly what that is yet, but it sounds like a nice microadjust system. Rolex offers yet another watch we all want. Funny how something like "42mm wide" is enough to get me excited in the Rolex context. This and the new Daytona styles are the big news for Rolex this year - the 36mm wide models are looking smaller and smaller,rolex replica!

Does the iPod Nano Make a Good Watch?

There’s been a lot of talk recently of using the new iPod Nano as a watch (the iWatch, as it’s being called), so I thought I’d pick one up and give it a try.

The good:

Music, audio books, and radio right on your wrist. If you already use a smart phone, this probably doesn’t impress you much, but if you don’t, you might like the convergence. Easy time synchronization. Your computer probably calibrates its clock against a time server which,wwatches replica, in turn, probably calibrates against an atomic clock. Every time you sync your iPod with your computer, the iPod’s time us updated,replica watches, so it should stay pretty accurate as long as you sync it fairly regularly. It’s relatively small. At .74 ounces and roughly 1.5″ square, it’s actually pretty compact by today’s watch standards. Adequately functional. It has day/date on the face,breitling fakes, and it also has a stopwatch and a countdown timer. Configurable watch face. Choose between white or black.

The bad:

Not water-resistant. Even an impromptu water fight might be enough to ruin your iWatch. You have to remember to charge it. If you already sync your iPod frequently, this probably won’t be a problem, but if you don’t, charging your watch is just one more thing you will have to remember to do. Not good in direct sunlight. Since it has a backlit screen, it’s very hard to read in direct sunlight. On the other hand, it works great in the dark. Can’t just glance at the time. Checking the time means actually turning the iPod on. Since you have to reach over and hit a button anyway, it might be just as easy to pull out your phone. You’re only supposed to use it in temperatures between 32° and 95°F (-20° to 45°C). That means no wearing your iWatch while shoveling snow in the winter or doing yard work in the summer — at least where I live.

Although using an iPod nano as a watch is definitely somewhat gimmicky, it actually worked better than I expected. If you’re someone who is really into watches, I doubt an iPod Nano would replace what’s already on your wrist or sitting on your dresser. But if you’re more into gadgets and music than timepieces, strapping an iPod Nano to your wrist might be the way to go. Just consider going with the cheaper 8GB version ($149) so if you smash the crystal (screen, I guess I should say) or get it wet, you can pick up another without too much regret.
